  • Overview

    The Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring all workstation, servers, switches, routers, and hubs are running properly and are loaded with the government approved versions of software, to include updates, patches and security software on the Battle Lab Collaborative Simulation Environment (BLCSE). The Cyber Battle Lab is an experimentation, assessment, and IT services provider facility leveraging innovative Signal, Cyber, and EW concepts and technologies to support the warfighter and inform the requirements and acquisitions communities. Working at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6/7 (prototyping in a relevant/operational environment) and higher.

    Responsibilities

    • Install, configure and manage virtualization environments.
    • Install, configure and manage physical and virtual servers, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Power Distribution Units (PDUs), etc.
    • Performs a variety of tasks to include identifying servers to be virtualized, creating test environments, validation, converting servers, and maintaining virtual infrastructure.
    • Analyzes systems requirements in response to customer requirements, risks, and costs by working directly with management and system administrators.
    • Evaluates new systems' information technologies and their effect on the environment.
    • Ensures that cyber security and OPSEC policies, principles, and practices are an integral element of the operating environment.
    • Integrates hardware and software components within the systems environment.
    • Continually monitors and fine-tunes performance of the Information Systems.
    • Conducts analyses of network usage, user complaints, traffic interruptions, hardware and software capabilities, and other relevant factors.
    • Identifies adverse trends, ineffective practices or procedures, equipment shortcomings, etc.
    • Apply Information Technology (IT) expertise, including feasibility studies, technical evaluation, justification, acquisition/procurement, installation, implementation, management, and administration of IT systems.
    • Work is performed in a complex classified closed restricted network environment involving support to geographically dispersed sites and locations.
    • Configure and manage Linux (CentOS) and Windows operating systems.
    • Manage and maintain dynamic web server environment to include but not limited to Microsoft IIS, Microsoft Server, Apache Server, MySQL, Microsoft SQL and other dynamic services.
    • Provide database support for SQL databases related to mission specific applications.
    • Services include, but are not limited to, service life-cycle maintenance of databases, implementing reporting features, correcting database errors, modifying databases performing upgrades, and user training.
    • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problem.
    • Creates, updates and follows SOPs and other documentation.
    • Must be a quick learner with a desire to work in a team-oriented environment.

    Required Experience/Qualifications

    • This position is designated as Information Assurance Workforce (IAWF) Information Assurance Technical Level II (IAT II). Baseline certification:  upon hire must already possess (and be maintaining) current CCNA Security (preferred) or GSEC or GICSP or Security+ CE or SSCP.
    • Day one Computing Environment (CE) certification: upon hire all BLCSE Senior Systems Administrators must already possess (and be maintaining) current certification for Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) Server 2012.  In addition, 1 CME in the BLCSE must have MCSE Server Infrastructure and 1 CME must have MS Exam 74-409, Server virtualization with Hyper V and 1 CME supporting the BLCSE must obtain and maintain NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) or approved equivalent certification.
    • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience administrating networks and systems, worked directly in the career field during five (5) of the preceding eight (8) years.
    • Must possess advanced IT administrator skills in remote administration, remote desktop, Group Policy Object (GPO) management, system backup and recovery, and monitor servers for performance evaluation and optimization.
    • Must possess advanced IT Administrator skills in Collaboration Services, e.g., Adobe Connect Server, Chat Services, SharePoint Portal, Electronic Email (Exchange) Server
    • Must possess advance skills in data center management, Cloud Services, virtualization, storage area networks (SANs), data/system backups, and asset management.
    • Must possess expert remote troubleshooting and customer service skills

    Preferred Experience/Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in technology related field preferred.
    • Experience with NetApp's Data OnTap operating system
    • Experience in SharePoint 2013/2016 administration and related architecture.
    • Experience in Exchange 2013/2016 administration and related architecture.
    • Highly experienced with Windows Servers Active Directory (Users/GPO/DNS/DHCP/NTP/WSUS/etc.)
    • Cisco Router/Switch/ASA experience a plus.
    • Within 180 days: MCSE Cloud Platform & Infrastructure
    • 5+ years of experience in Systems.
    • Knowledge of the following technologies:
      • - Microsoft Windows Server - 2012-2016
      • - Linux – CentOS, RedHat, Ubuntu
      • - VMware and Hyper-V

    Special Requirements/Security Clearance

    • Top Secret Clearance 
    • 10% or less - You may be expected to travel for this position.

    Physical Demands

    • Periodically lifting Information Technology equipment.
